hey guys. mid year hols are approaching, how is everyone doing so far? stress and heavy workload are part and parcel of jc life. but after looking at the physics common test results, i'm worried that some of you are not reaping the results worthy of the effort you put in.

'A' level requirement is vastly different from 'O' level, at least i can say so for math and physics. most questions you face are testing your understanding and application of concepts. you may not believe it now, but working hard is not the most important in jc. THINKING hard is. as a student, i do not usually complete my tutorial. but i made sure i know how to do the most difficult question, which is normally the last question. my way of doing things is, when i am stuck at a question, i would give myself three hours to think on it. at the end of the three hours, if i still cannot find a breakthrough, only then will i ask for help from my friends. most of you may think it's madness spending so much time on one question. it may be a stubborn side of me, refusing to be beaten at a subject which i am supposedly good at. but then i realised, you will learn the most, when you do it by yourself.

i am lucky to have friends who share my thoughts. we were always online, hence it was never difficult when we need to ask each other for help. also, when we face difficult questions, questions which we feel are "worth attempting", we would tell each other to try the question. why do i say "worth attempting"? because you do not improve by doing questions that you already know how to solve. you get better by solving questions which require techniques that you previously do not know of. this came in especially useful when time is a scarce resource; i do not have to waste time looking through the whole tutorial.

these are just some of my experience in jc. i hope you all will find it useful. next time, i will share how i manage to create so much free time for myself that i can learn, and pass my driving all in j2.
